Music

Music is an integral part of the worship and life of our church. Bromley Parish Church has a strong musical tradition with an excellent choir, magnificent organ and bellringers and hosts a range of recitals during the year. We hope that the pages in this Music section will give you a good appreciation of our activities. The Event pages also give further details.

Choral music is a vital and valued part of the life of Bromley Parish Church. The music at our services is led by the able, dedicated and committed 4 part choir consisting of both junior and adult members. The main rehearsal for the adult choir is on a Thursday evening (19.30 – 21.00) and there is a short rehearsal 30 minutes before the Sunday services. The junior choir meets at 18.00 on a Thursday and sings at the main Eucharist service on Sunday.

Organ

The organ, built in 1991 by J. W. Walker & Sons Ltd, was designed to support congregational worship, to accompany a traditional choir, and as a recital instrument for use alone or with other instruments.

It has three manuals and pedals, 40 speaking stops, six couplers, and three tremulants, and comprises 55 ranks with 2,708 pipes. The manual and pedal actions of the organ are mechanical; the stop control is electro-magnetic with a solid state capture combination action.

Bells

The earliest record of bells in the church dates to 1552 when there were 4 bells in the tower. By 1773 there were 8 bells, a number that remains today. The current bells were cast in 1950 and re-hung in the church tower when the church was rebuilt after it was bombed in World War II.

The bells are rung from 10.00 before each 10.30 service as well as on other occasions. Visiting groups often come to ring a peal. Please do come along to join our tower team.
